Scott Peterson Trial Over Scott Peterson got the death penalty and I'm happy he did. Oh, did I just lose some readers? Anyway, I think the death penalty is a good thing, but unfortunately it is just a joke right now. Mr. Peterson MAY be executed in 20 years or so, and we won't even get to see it. Our current punishments are not a deterrent to crime. No criminal right now is cowering scared that he may get the death penalty or even go to jail. If the punishment is not swift and serious enough, it will not deter crime, plain and simple.

I think we need to go back to public flogging in the town square, like Singapore. We should maybe even re-institute public hangings or beheadings, like France. Man, people back then were scared, which was the whole point.
