where credit is due...
I just realized that i should give props to my man Foo, whom i met once ... well i saw him in a restaurant...anyway. It was Foo's site, www.forgetfoo.com, that made me wanna have my own blog. For some unexplicable reason, it was fun reading someone else's thoughts, instead of wallowing in your own. So here is to my man, Foo, whom i hardly know. Thanx and good luck.

Wardriving, part 3
I had fun today. I had some free time in between appointments and i did a little war driving in parts of Palo Alto and East Palo Alto that i have not mapped before. If someone was watching me, they must have thought i was seriously lost. I kept turning and double-backing and going this way and that way. And it helped that i had a good CD on: Lo-Fidelity Allstars - Don't be afraid of Love. It has a serious groove and it was perfect for the boring and mundane task of driving around aimlessly. So I updated the AP map (link on the right) and threw in some color. Now the WEP enabled pins are RED and WEP free are GREEN. Green means GO!!! Check it out and let me know what you think.

more Wardriving...
I just talked to a buddy of mine about the wardriving I've done around the Bay Area (http://flatblog.dhs.org/wireless) and he was totally amazed by how much can be done with just a laptop and a wireless card. I always thought i was the one that was behind the times and that i was jumpiung on this bandwagon way later than everyone else. Turns out that some people still don't know. And that's cool. It gives people like me a chance to explain. Or better yet point you to the right website and save myself typing.
Anyway, remeber, wardriving is not a crime as long as you only DOCUMENT the existing Wireless Access Points, and not actively try to hack into WiFi networks. So wardrive carefully and remeber what we always say: "Don't get eliminated!"

Wardriving
I'm going to to try and maintain an updated map of wireless access points around the Bay Area. Look under the "Links" for the link to that page. I will try to add new info and refresh the map as often as I can. We'll see how that goes.
Master (Ass)Blaster Worm
I would just like to extend my personal thanks to the jerk-wad that released the blaster worm. Not because it was an asshole thing to do, trying to cripple the world's web servers, but because it made my day hell. I had to handle phone calls every five minutes, with people asking about it. And that's despite a big article in the local papers, announcement on Microsoft.com and Symantec.com, just to name a few places. Every person, same question. And all this while I was directed to patch all of our servers, because no one bothered to set them on auto update. Or bothered to look into installing a SUS server from MS. (Except me - I mentioned it to my boss weeks ago.)
So I was late for my first appt, moved the second to tomorrow and just felt like I was running ragged around all day. And then we had that company meeting where people just felt alienated and angry. Thankfully, at least in my opinion, things were somewhat resolved. I feel a little better, even if the company is somewhat shaky.

Besides you,
other people have been here.
This is where Flat Line gets to tell you about the murky things that wallow in his mind. It might be computer-related, or maybe some philosophical musings, or maybe just complete gibberish as I let my cats type for me. Let's see where this goes...
